-- The Linguistic Mind --

An Introduction

Language and writing have been my passion for countless years; whether high-fantasy fiction, non-fiction or poetry, I greatly enjoy working with language, English and German.

Over many years, I studied language and how to use it; not at university but through long hours of private research into linguistics and reading, feedback from family, friends and teachers. Although I wasn't fond of grammar in the beginning, once I learned how to use it, understood its meaning, I began to appreciate it greatly: an entirely new world opened then.

I have always been a writer, a storyteller, whether interested in grammar or not; the analytic side of my research joined in later. I began to learn Gàidhlig and French although I am in no way fluent in either; later I began to look into Icelandic, Ancient Greek and Finnish.

Gàidhlig was, however, the first of these alien languages that has fascinated me ever since I heard it during one of those road-trips to Edinburgh; it wasn't just the strange sound, it was its positively strange, unfamiliar, new grammar that intrigued me! Ultimately different from English or German, or French, for that matter, I chose Gàidhlig as a first model for my own languages.

Since I have developed several composed or constructed languages for my prose project. One day, I hope to publish this work, including the languages as part of the background fabric of the histories, philosophies, cultures and ethics of my epic high fantasy fiction world!
